January cookies / Siječanjski keksi / Talvikeksit

There is one really bad thing about oatmeal cookies. Those whole five minutes when you’re supposed to be waiting for them to firm up after pulling the tray out of the oven. Oh wait, there’s another thing, the age-old problem that the whole batch might be sitting happily in your tummy before your girlfriend even lays eyes on them. That’s right! Boys can bake too, and put kind-of pink stuff in their cookies!

If your Christmas was anything like ours, by now you’ve promised to replace cookies with a stick of celery. Who are you kidding, it’s obvious that this will only lead to long, cold, dark nights of crankiness. So if you want to renegotiate with yourself, just think about the name of the cookie, “oat-meal”, sounds healthy doesn’t it? Add whole-wheat flour to it along with dried fruits and, wow, have you got a tasty deal…

If you’re a first-timer, you will freak out at the sight of raw cookies after the prescribed 12 minutes in the oven. Don’t worry, they will cool down quickly to gooey-crunchy goodness, just make sure they’re slightly browned on the bottom. If you’re a certain someone’s sister, you could proclaim this to be a poor recipe because you managed to make one huge, tray-sized cookie, so please give those little balls enough room to spread. Unless, of course, your January diet is one-cookie-per-day.

(recipe inspired by Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies)

  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
  • 110 g butter
  • 115 g oats
  • 75 g wholewheat flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 50 g chocolate
  • 40 g cranberries

    • 100 g smeđeg šećera
    • 1 jaje
    • 1 žličica vanilin šećera
    • 110 g maslaca
    • 115 g zobenih pahuljica
    • 75 g integralnog brašna
    • 1/4 tsp sode bikarbone
    • 1/4 tsp soli
    • 50 g čokolade
    • 40 g brusnica

  • 100 g ruokosokeria
  • 1 kananmuna
  • 1 tl vaniliinisokeria
  • 110 g voita
  • 115 g kaurahiutaleita
  • 75 g täysjyvä vehnäjauhoja
  • 1/4 tl ruoka soodaa
  • 1/4 tl suolaa
  • 50 g tummaa suklaata
  • 40 g karpaloita

  1. Beat the egg with sugar until creamy. Add vanilla sugar and melted butter.
  2. In another bowl, combine oats, wholewheat flour, salt, and baking soda. Add to wet ingredients and stir to combine.
  3. Chop up the chocolate and add to the batter along with the cranberries, mixing well.
  4. Shape the cookies into small balls and arrange them on a baking tray. Bake at 170°C for about 12 minutes. When the cookies are ready, they will still be soft to the touch, flat and slightly browned on the bottom.
  1. Miksajte jaje i šećer dok ne postanu kremasti. Dodajte vanilin šećer i otopljeni maslac.
  2. U drugoj posudi pomiješajte zobene pahuljice, integralno brašno, sol i sodu bikarbonu. Umiješajte u mješavinu jaja i šećera.
  3. Nasjeckajte čokoladu na komadiće i zajedno s brusnicama dobro umiješajte u tijesto.
