Spiced Mulled Wine / Začinjeno kuhano vino / Mausteinen “Glögi”

It’s not often that a recipe that is so simple can be so rewarding. Maybe it’s because the mulled wine comes after dinner, so it is fair that all you have to do is throw a bunch of ingredients into a pot and check on it later. Our mulled wine season starts when the first chilly weather arrives and lasts several months, depending mostly on which country we live in. It is a great recipe to have on hand when a few friends come over or to just warm up on the couch with. As an added bonus, we decided to practice our language skills on you lot, Ružmarin starting with a few sentences in Finnish and TIlli providing his excellent Croatian instructions later.

(p.s. The sugar in the recipe is totally up to your taste and the wine you’re using. Also, star anise might sound quite exotic, but it’s easy to find at any bigger store. If you’re a fan of white wine, the same recipe will work great!)

Kun tulee Joulukuu, Suomessa on aina glogiä kotona ja pikkujoulu juhlissa. Mutta nyt kun me asutaan Kroatiassa, tällä ei ole glögimehua, sitten me tehdään lämmintä mausteviiniä. Kokeile tämä resepti, se on tosi hyvä ja se ei ole liian sokerinen. Se on hauskaa tehdä ystävän kanssa!

Tu je Tilliov recept “S pilerom radi nešto piliće iz naranče. Onda sve stvari idu u lonac i imaju tulum za 30 min, ali može biti više minute.” Naravno sve mogu razumjeti njegov recept, lagano je. Mi volimo kuhati vino s prijateljima na zimu, kad za van je hladno i mi imamo dobar razgovor unutra. Uživajte!

(serves 4 / za 4 osobe / 4 annosta)

  • 750 ml red wine
  • 750 ml water
  • 6-8 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 10 cloves
  • peel of 1 orange
  • 750 ml crnog vina
  • 750 ml vode
  • 6-8 žlica smeđeg sećera
  • 1 zvjezdasti anis
  • 1 štapić cimeta
  • 10 klinčića
  • kora 1 naranče
  • 750 ml punaviiniä
  • 750 ml vettä
  • 6-8 rkl tummaa sokeria
  • 1 tähtianis
  • 1 kanelitanko
  • 10 mausteneilikkaa
  • appelsiinin kuori
Use a peeler to peel the peel of the orange :) Add all the ingredients into a large pot and simmer on low heat for a while, 30 minutes is fine, but the longer the better.
Ogulite naranču i ubacite koru u lonac zajedno sa svim ostalim sastojcima. Krčkajte na laganoj vatri barem pola sata, a ako vino ostavite duže bit će još bolje.
Kuori appelsiini. Laita kaikki ainekset isoon kattilaan ja anna kiehua miedolla lämmöllä jonkin verran, 30 min on hyvä aloituskohta mutta mitä pidempään viini kiehuu sitä paremmaksi maku muuttuu.
