Čupavci / Lamingtons / Pörröiset

Hanging out on a regular weeknight, it’s late and cold and there’s football on TV.

Ružmarin: “If I start on the čupavci batter, will you coat them during half-time?”
(both smacking our lips)

They’re so good! We promise it’s not one of those childhood things you like for no obvious reason. If you don’t believe it, look at the amount of sugar and butter/oil for an obvious reason. Go make them.

Batter:

  • 3 eggs
  • 200 g sugar
  • 180 ml oil
  • 300 g flour
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 100 ml milk

Chocolate coating:

  • 200 g butter
  • 100 g chocolate
  • 200 ml milk
  • 100 g sugar
  • 250 g coconut flakes
Tijesto:

  • 3 jaja
  • 200 g šećera
  • 180 ml ulja
  • 300 g brašna
  • 10 g praška za peciva
    (1 vrećica)
  • 100 ml mlijeka

Čokoladni preljev:

  • 200 g maslaca
  • 100 g čokolade
  • 200 ml mlijeka
  • 100 g šećera
  • 250 g kokosovog brašna
Taikina:

  • 3 kananmunaa
  • 200 g sokeria
  • 180 ml öljyä
  • 300 g jauhoja
  • 10 g leivinjauhetta
  • 100 ml maitoa

Suklaa kuorutus:

  • 200 g voita
  • 100 g suklaata
  • 200 ml maitoa
  • 100 g sokeria
  • 250 g kookoshiutaleita
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. To make the batter, first separate egg yolks from whites. Beat whites with sugar until peaks form.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
  4. Constantly beating, add all the ingredients to the bowl with beaten whites: first the oil, then half of the flour, followed by egg yolks, milk, and the rest of the flour.
  5. Pour the batter into a buttered 35×25 cm dish and bake until it starts to detach from the sides of the dish, about 25 min. When it cools down a little, cut away the about a cm on all the sides and cut the rest into squares about 5×5 cm big.
  6. In a small pot, melt butter with chocolate. When melted, add sugar and milk and stir until well combined, then leave to cool down a little.
  7. Pour the coconut flakes into a separate bowl.
  8. Dip the squares into chocolate, turn them over with the fork, then put into the coconut flakes. Coat well and take out using a second fork. Repeat until all the lamingtons are fluffy and look like they’re having a bad hair day.

  1. Zagrijte pećnicu na 180°C.
  2. Razdvojite bjelanjke i žumanjke, te izmiksajte bjelanjke u snijeg zajedno sa šećerom.
  3. U drugoj posudi dobro izmiješajte brašno i prašak za peciva.
  4. Uz neprestano miksanje, u snijeg od bjelanjaka dodavajte redom: ulje, polovicu brašna, žumanjke, mlijeko i potom ostatak brašna.
  5. Ulijte tijesto u namašćenu tepsiju od 35×25 cm i pecite dok se ne počne odvajati od stranica tepsije, oko 25 min. Kad se tijesto malo ohladi, odrežite oko 1 cm na rubovima, pa narežite ostatak na kocke veličine oko 5×5 cm.
  6. U maloj posudi otopite maslac i čokoladu. Dodajte mlijeko i šećer. Kad se svi sastojci povežu, maknite s vatre i ostavite da se malo ohladi.
  7. Usipajte kokosovo brašno u posebnu posudu.
  8. Umočite svaku kocku u čokoladu, preokrenite vilicom i prebacite u kokosovo brašno. Obložite kokosom i izvadite drugom vilicom. Ponavljajte dok svi čupavci ne postanu čupavi.

  1. Lämmitä uuni 200 asteeseen.
  2. Erottele keltuaiset ja valkuaiset kananmunista taikinan valmistamiseen. Vatkaa valkuaiset ja sokeri kunnes kuohkeaa.
  3. Sekoita jauhot sekä leivinjauhe toisessa kulhossa.
  4. Lisää kaikki ainekset kulhoon jossa on vatkatut valkuaiset. Vatkaa jatkuvasti ja lisää ensimmäiseksi öljy, sitten puolet jauhoista, keltuaiset ja maito. Lopulta lisää loput jauhoista.
  5. Kaada taikina 35x25cm uunivuokaan ja paista uunissa kunnes taikina alkaa irtoutumaan vuoan reunoilta, n. 25 min. Anna hetken viileentyä ja sitten leikkaa leivos 5×5 kokoisiin kuutioihin.
  6. Sulata voi ja suklaa pienessä kattilassa. Sitten lisää maitoa ja sokeria, sitten sekoita hyvin.
  7. Laita kookoshiutaleet toiseen kulhoon.
  8. Muodosta pörröiset niin että ensin laske leivoskuutio suklaaseen haarukalla. Varmista että kosteutat kaikki puolet. Seuraavaksi laita kostea, suklainen kuutio kookoshiutaleihin. Kääntele haarukalla kunnes kuutio on pörröinen.
